This is a selection of several abstract based works working through the website which have been created by different artists during the last 2 years. Almost all of them are very recent works as well as interactive, try to explore them properly.

Andrey Yazev has created some of the most interesting and beautiful pieces using javascript and GUI from the browsers such as scrollbars, check box, tables.. they were created when the GUI aqua based style from Mac OS X (the ones previous to Lion) so they looked so cool, not sure how they looks with the grey and sad style that Lion offers now as I’m still working with Snow Leopard. I recommend to check out all the works at the389.com. The screenshot below shows the389.com/9/1/

Few months ago Andrew Benson started to work on the website using WebGL and the works made so far are stunning. This is one of them called “hills” or “I like it here” as the page’s title says. It’s a texturized three-dimensional environment where you can move around and explore it using the arrow keys and space bar, there is not any goal, just go and like it there :)

Random Selection in Random Image by Jan Robert Leegte who continues working focused on GUI and transporting them to the website with great concepts. For this piece Jan Robert used the selection marquee from Photoshop which has already used for previous physical art works. The website is quite addictive as it creates uncertainty about what will be the next image (refresh to load a new image) and what is going to be selected.
Jan Robert Leegte has been working on the website for a very long time now and has and excellent amount of works, just have a look to his start page and check out all of them.

Div/Contour is one of the chaotic but perfectly organized animated collages by Joe Hamilton, this one works through the website and is an infinite loop (by scrolling down) that never ends. As he told us “Div/Contour is composed in nine sections that connect and loop in various ways. They move positions, hide, unhide and repeat to create an endless scrolling landscape. Various online image search tools were uses to collect source material for the project. The keywords of traverse, natural and artificial were the initial starting point and the visual concept expanded from there.”

More cool browser GUI from, a classic one by Alexei Shulgin, Form Art, Alexei Shulgin interactive as a game.
“In 1997, he released his first interactive work, Form Art, in which only minimum factors are programmed in the form of HTML. Shulgin describes this page as a “formalistic” aesthetical art site”. Navigating this site requires aimless click-throughs of blank boxes and links, which lead the viewer through countless pages of “form art” animations made up of Shulgin’s boxes. Some of the more interesting discoveries on the page include a “Gomputer Game”, which allows the viewer to make arbitrary decisions upon which link to cick- sometimes leading to the next round, other times often merely ending up at the “you lose” page. From the homepage of Shulgin’s Form site however, one can navigate to a list of the artist’s resume and their respective links. The webpage could very well be several years old if the latest postings accurately read “1997”, making this an interesting look into the early internet tools via HTML. This was aimed at the influence of a networking process on the Internet.” – Wikipedia.

IHSE by Esther Hunziker is a series of autonomous architectural buildings. Each photo shows a geometric figure, which overrides the forms of classical architecture. There is no roof nor a base, no top or bottom. The buildings float in the void. Architecture which looks like concrete capsules through which one can move into a different space-time continuum. The interactive online version of the photo series IHSE, responds to the mouse movements of the user.
