Moving to Italy in 2005 after earning a degree in Industrial Design from the Universidade Luterana do Brasil (ULBRA), Italian-Brazilian designer Paula Cademartori, continuing her studies in Milan where she obtained a master’s degree magnacum laude in Fashion Accessories from the Marangoni Institute, is the next big name in accessory design. Obtaining valuable experience during her time as a Junior Accessories Designer for creative research and leather goods design for renowned designer Gianni Versace, Paula developed the skills to break out on her own and launch her own brand, with September 2010 marking the international debut of the PAULA CADEMARTORI brand with the introduction of her first handbag collection.

For Spring/Summer 2013 Paula presents a collection that is inspired by the Cayman Islands, “whose bright hues characterize and enhance the palette, made more precious by delicate 1950s nuances for a colour combination that recalls the magic and relaxing landscapes of the Antillean Sea”. Classic colours which Paula describes as “posh black, gris, and tinted wine” sit side-by-side more exuberant shades of “bubblegum, sky blue, strawberry red, and mascavo sugar”. Each piece is adorned with “colour blocks” that give the handbags not only a unique quality, but also an incredibly versatile outcome – enabling them to work with an array of outfits, including everything from a glamorous cocktail dress to an admirable pair of jeans and a simple top that’s been thrown on 10 minutes before meeting the girls for a shopping trip or a cup of coffee.

The combination of the use of smooth nappa leather with soft suede emphasises the sheer luxury quality that the brand oozes. Paula creates handbags that can not only be used to keep your mobile phone, tablet, sunglasses and make-up bag in, but also pieces which give an evident nod to both classic and contemporary art that can be hung on your arm rather than on a gallery wall.

You can view the full PAULA CADEMARTORI Spring/Summer 2013 collection on Paula’s website and purchase selected pieces online through LUISAVIAROMA.
