“It’s a Surrealist meeting of a white pique polo shirt and Cubist portraits. We call it a performance of sculpture”
Viktor Horsting, diseñador de Viktor&Rolf.

Viktor&Rolf has presented the new collection for Haute Couture Spring 2016 and it is an ode to the most extravagant kind of art, taking this idea to its maximum consequences. A mix of the classic white polo shirt, color minimalism and Cubist shapes that leaves no one indifferent. What may the model defending these designs in the runaway think? Maybe she feels relieved her face doesn’t pop-up among all the paraphernalia; or maybe she walks head up and proud of being part of one of the historical breaking points in the fashion industry.

The Dutch House has based its collection in one of the most radical artistic avant-gardes and taken all the color away from it, leaving the garments in total white as a symbol of sculpture and materials such as marble and plaster. The only exception comes with the black flower, a reminder of the maison’s logo. Why? Because Viktor&Rolf are all about shapes and volumes. Their experiments about the third dimension and unexpected lines are captured in this collection: an essay about volume at their best.

From the big asymmetric eyes with lashes to the most sharped angles, Viktor&Rolf has achieved the impossible: wearable art that sets off from a white basic polo and adapts the imaginary of Braque and the brilliant Pablo Picasso. Genuine tailor-made sculptures that look like totems and completely hide the human body. Tubular, squared and rounded shapes whose outline changes depending on the angle of sight.

An architectural effect made with technical piqué that looks totally improvised, like doodles drawn by a little child. Nothing could be further from the truth: each shape, cut and sewing is carefully thought, sewed and created. About the white decision, it allows the designers to forget patterns, color mixes and combination to focus only in the cleanest and sharpest shapes.
